Cuti-Cuti Kinabalu (Part 1 : The Shopping)

It’s our first visit to Kota Kinabalu. In every trip to other places, I like to see their local specialties as well as the food there. Walking around KK town, we found out that there are so many things we share in common and yet, many more not. The town was quite developed but still you can find slow growing paces or underdevelopment in it.

The market of Kota Kinabalu… It’s a very interesting place where you can find different types of goods sold. Fresh veggies, fruits, snacks, dried food and even clothes on the second floor…

A vegetable stall in the market…

Look! Dried seahorses… believed to have strong medicinal value…

Dried seafood… and look at those large dried scallops…

My best friends… chillis…

I found these colourful chocolate pastilles in the market. Can you still remember them?!

Some local delicacies found along the way… The small stalls actually reminded us of Jogjakarta / Bali… This is what I mean by underdevelopment within development…

Guess what are these? They are tapioca powder. I’m not sure how to eat/cook them though… 😛

Skillful tailors in the Philippino market… Notice that most of them are men… I think I only spotted one lady tailor while others are all men…

Colourful bands sold in the handicraft centre…

Do you know this was made from real frog? Yikes!!! Who dare to use it?

Creative corals and shells… The stall owner actually forbids photo taking… This was a result of pure ignorance… bluek!

Running 21k in Borneo

We took our hobby to another level. Mein and I flew to Kota Kinabalu to run our first run outside West Malaysia. It was the Borneo International Marathon 2012 which I ran 21km while Mein, 10km.

21km runners of COBC… We were flagged off at 5.00am.

It was an awesome run and I liked the medal so much. The logo has a proboscis monkey on it, an animal only found in Borneo.

Mein with her finisher medal… Good job dear!

This is definitely one of my favourite medals… I beat my own 21km record too! My timing is 2:19:15.12. My target now is to run sub-2 and to also finish a full marathon in overseas…

Food & Drink

Brunch @ Levain

It has been a very long time we have heard about this restaurant called Levain. It’s located in the heart of the city. Finally, we managed to pay this place a visit for our brunch.

It’s our first visit. We were quite blur on what to order or how to order our food. We found a seat upstairs and asked Mein to sit and wait. However, I went downstairs and found another seat which is better for photography. Called Mein to come down and sit.

Later on when I went to grab our food, I found out that there a red coloured “Occupied” placard, which you can place it on the table you want to reserve. Now, I know what to do in our next visit.

Here are the pastries I picked. I highly recommend Danish Mixed Nuts (first from left). Coco Crunch (second from right) was good too! We loved Seafood pizza (third from right). However, Caramel French (far left) was not really our taste. To be frank, I find the price is slightly to the high side. Pampering ourselves with luxury food is ok for once a while.

Mein enjoying her big slice of Seafood Pizza. It can be reheated at a reheat counter at the restaurant.

Nom nom nom!

The ambience was definitely relaxing for a wonderful Sunday morning. The crowd was definitely big at around 10am and faded off around 11.30am.

There are more seats upstairs. So, don’t fret if ground floor is full.

The pastry area… be my guest…

Let’s’ tapao this yummy Danish Mixed Nuts for ma…

Cutey Coco Crunch… with 2 eyes… hehehe…

You can opt to park your vehicle in the restaurant with a pay of Rm2 only. However, spaces are limited. I parked further and walked there. Do take note that there are many Indian self-claimed parking attendants around, asking for money.

This restaurant opens at 7.30am – 9pm (daily).

I Did My Maiden 21KM!

Image

11 March 2012 – Did my maiden 21km run in the Brooks Half Marathon Run around Bukit Jalil and Kuchai Lama area. The main reason I signed up this run was actually because I wanted to know how it feels like being on feet along the roads that I use daily. The feeling is good but I didn’t know that I have been driving along these routes for sooo many “21kms” for so many years. Blessed to have a car to travel around and blessed to have a pair of legs to walk and run.

After running half a marathon, I actually dozed off for almost half a day…aahhh… blissful…

PS : If you notice, I’ve been almost 2 weeks on Super Mass Gainer and I could already see more defined muscle tone…

Started Mass Gainer on A Leap Day

Image

It’s 29 February 2012, a leap day. I started my first cup of Dymatize Super Mass Gainer this morning. Well, I did some research on a few websites, comparing nutritional contents of different brands and found out that Dymatize is one of those which carry lower sugar and fat content in general. At the same time, most reviews are positive! Not sure if it will work for me, but I’m giving it a try.

Did my order with bodybuildingasian.com and received my order yesterday. They are very fast and efficient in terms of delivery. Just ordered via SMS and got my order in 2 days. Kudos!
