“Ride On” Movie Review: Jackie Chan Pays Homage to Kung Fu Stuntmen

Thanks to a giveaway hosted by fellow influencer Kiflimally, I was able to win two tickets to the premiere screening of Ride On at Dadi Cinema Pavilion KL on April 7th, 2023. Jackie Chan plays Luo Zhilong, a forgotten and ageing stuntman caught up in a custody battle over his beloved stunt horse. The film, directed by Larry Yang Zi, pays homage to Chinese film history and the contributions of kung fu stuntmen.

While Chan co-leads the story with Chinese actress Liu Haocun 刘浩存 and actor Guo Qilin 郭麒麟, his equine co-star, Red Hare 赤兔, steals the show with an emotional connection to Chan’s character. Some notable stars like Andy On 安志杰, Joey Yung 容祖儿, Wu Jing 吴京, Stanley Tong 唐季礼, Ray Lui 吕良伟, and Aarif Rahman 李治廷 play supporting and cameo roles.

Unlike Chan’s usual action-packed dramas, Ride On is a film that touches the heart, with satisfying fight scenes complemented with genuine emotional moments. I was surprised by how much I cried throughout the movie, especially during the scenes with Red Hare and Chan’s character. Both of them connected and expressed their emotions so well.

Happy 69th Birthday to Jackie Chan

Overall, the Ride On premiere was a memorable event, especially given that it occurred on Jackie Chan’s 69th birthday. Fans of Chan and Chinese film history, as well as anyone looking for a touching and heartwarming story, should see this film.

“This year’s International Women’s Day theme, #EmbraceEquity, aligns with our ministry’s goal of promoting women’s active participation in the workforce. Upskilling women and marginalised communities with digital skills will provide
new income opportunities, narrowing the gender equality gap. Gender equality requires the involvement, cooperation and support of various stakeholders. We’re pleased to be part of this encouraging collaboration between the private and public sector. MAGGI ® will work with the Ministry on grassroot community outreach with a key focus on the B40 community, offering upskilling workshops and engagement sessions to help them tap into the digital economy.”

Said YB Dato’ Sri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development (KPWKM)

Nestlé has observed International Women’s Day for many years as an important milestone to celebrate women’s achievements around the world.

“We recognise the progress made in the journey so far, while we renew our commitment to continue making positive changes towards building diversity, equity and inclusivity in Malaysia, for women and for all. With the advent of digitalisation, Nestlé and MAGGI® are embracing gender equity by upskilling and empowering women in the digital age, whilst building their confidence and helping them elevate their food businesses.”

Social media influencers and content creators are essential to a brand’s outreach with the rise of social media and the growth of the digital landscape. Women in Malaysia have numerous opportunities to generate sustainable income from food content and level up their food businesses with digital skills and capabilities. By working with renowned digital leaders like Google, Meta, and TikTok, MAGGI® is going one step further to advance Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® to the next level.

A brand-new online module is being offered as part of this year’s Bengkel Online Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® for participants who want to start their journey as food-based content creators, either as individuals or business owners. The chance to attend a Masterclass: Food Influencer and Content Creator with MAGGI® is also offered to participants. In addition to sharing tips, best practices, and advice on content creation, experts from Google, Meta, and TikTok also share stories from successful influencers to motivate participants. Following a thorough selection process, 21 winners will be chosen to receive a contract with MAGGI® and be part of an exclusive mentorship program to become food content creators.

“As we progress along to support women in their upskilling journey, it is important to
remind all that we must always strive for progress and make a difference, no matter how small. So we should constantly ask ourselves, ‘Apa perubahan anda hari ini?’ (‘What changes did you make today?’). We are confident that through the Program Mentor Wanita Cukup Berani MAGGI® , we can continue to encourage women to make a positive change as aligned with MAGGI® CukupRasa’s ‘Tak Kenal, Tak Cinta’ (‘Never Try, Never Know’) spirit.”

Said Geetha Balakrishna, Business Executive Officer of MAGGI® of Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad

I am very honoured to be invited to attend the Resipi Berani MAGGI® Season 2 – Exclusive Watch Party last Wednesday and I must say I had fun watching Episode 1 with my fellow bloggers. I still remember the hall had a good laugh from the reactions of the mentors especially the witty Sheila Rusly and also some finalists who gave spontaneous and unexpected answers to the questions asked by the mentors. There was one saying that she loves menembak (shooting) and everyone in the watch party laughed so hard at her impetuous answer. Eventually she used to be a military reserve force. Bang! Bang!

Catch the episode for more excitement and see how these ladies learn to build their cooking hobby into a profitable business.

The upcoming Resipi Berani MAGGI® Season 2 reality show will be aired at 4.30 pm on TV3 every Friday for 6 weeks beginning 8 July, with a repeat at 11.30 am on Saturday. Viewers can also stream the episodes through MAGGI®’s YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/maggimalaysia) from 5.00 pm every Friday, 8 July onwards.

FREE Movie again! – Unbeatable 激戰

Image

Hurray!!! Won 2 FREE movie tickets (this time from KLIPS). The movie is 激戰 (Unbeatable). The step to win this movie was simple. Just share a link from KLIPS on my Facebook and Twitter. And done!

I have been eyeing on this movie for quite some time. After the young Malaysian actress, Crystal Lee 李馨巧 won the Best Actress award and Nick Cheung 張家輝 won Best Actor award in the 16th Shanghai International Film Festival last June.

Such a great honour for being able to be in the movie premier.

I don’t think I want to share with you about what this movie is about. But let me share my feelings after watching it. This movie is definitely worth your money. Not only you can see the dedication of each main actors, namely Nick, Crystal and Eddie Peng 彭於晏, you can also see what Mixed Martial Art (MMA) is all about!

Image

Being someone who has been involved in working out; gym, COBC bootcamp and MetCon X, I could really feel the intensity and pain both the two main actors have gone through prior shooting. OMG! Every part of the body. Every muscle is screaming in pain… every minute, every second. But the outcome is what we can witness in the movie. Toned, abs, chest, arms, legs, muscles. (Suddenly, Eddie Peng became my motivation).

Found some clips on Youtube. Let’s watch the clips below. Don’t forget to watch the movie in the cinema fast. You won’t regret.

Avatar : Before & After

BEFORE :

AFTER :

Frankly speaking, after watching Avatar, I wondered why were there so many movie-goers who loved it so much and highly appraising this movie. To me, it’s just another money-earning, commercialized film which did not impress me. I, personally, am not into sci-fi and fictional movies as I couldn’t relate the story to the real world.

If this movie is about love, well, I do agree that love could be across the border at times… But I don’t believe falling in love with an "alien"…

If this movie is about the environment, I think it could be better if the story is about people saving our earth. But not some other planet called Pandora… (BTW, the names used are so fake, dull and inconvincing)…

If this movie is about the ugly side of human-beings, well, why don’t they talk about our own human race disgracing our own planet and animals, creating war against other countries, polluting the earth and other shameful stuff people do.

I just couldn’t relate the whole idea to us…

Anyway, I got the tickets free. So, I have no objections watching it at the first place.

P/S : I am not against the movie creator or his team. I am just writing my feelings as someone who is not a sci-fi movie lover (like how some non-drama movie lovers do)
