Chap Goh Mei Extravaganza: NBBC’s Third KL Prosperity Walk Lights Up Bukit Bintang

The vibrant heart of Kuala Lumpur is set to pulse with energy as the Network of Bukit Bintang Communities (NBBC) and the BBKLCC Tourism Association gear up for the highly-anticipated third Kuala Lumpur Prosperity Walk on the 24 February 2024, coinciding with the Chap Goh Mei celebrations. Since its inception in 2022, the Kuala Lumpur Prosperity Walk has grown into an annual event that celebrates the rich tapestry of ‘Greater Bukit Bintang’ as the nexus for Festivals, Art & Culture, Music & Dance, Electronic, and more – contributing significantly to the social and economic development of the city.

This year, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is playing a defining role by incorporating the Prosperity Walk into its official Chinese New Year activities. The announcement was made during a press conference presided over by Mr. Lai Chen Heng and Ms. Carmen Leong, Kuala Lumpur City Advisory Board Members, who have been appointed as patrons to the organizing committee.

The event will span a 4.3-kilometer journey, taking a little over an hour to complete, starting from Dataran Merdeka at 1715 hrs, flagged off by YBhg Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh, the Mayor of Kuala Lumpur. The route will encompass iconic landmarks such as Pasar Seni, the River of Life, GMBB Community Mall, Federal Hotel, Lot 10, Plaza Low Yat, Sungei Wang, Berjaya Times Square, and conclude at Lalaport. Along the way, participants will pass through Petaling Street and Jalan Alor, where dragon and lion dances will captivate the audience at the flag-off, accompanied by colorful costumes and musical performances, showcasing the dynamic essence of the city.

For those preferring a shorter walk, a 1.4-kilometer route is also available, taking about 30 minutes to complete. Starting at Pavilion KL fountain area, it will pass landmarks including Starhill, Fahrenheit 88, and Lot 10, merging with the main route at Menara Hai O on Jalan Bukit Bintang. The Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, YB Tiong King Sing, will join the public celebration at Lalaport.

Mr. Jack Lim, Organising Chairman of NBBC, expressed gratitude for the support of local authorities and NGOs, stating, “The KL Prosperity Walk epitomizes the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity that defines Bukit Bintang.” He emphasized the event’s goal to encourage economic development, community empowerment, and environmental sustainability, inviting everyone to join in celebrating the dynamic tapestry of their community.

Mr. Ng Yih Chen, Chairman of BBKLCC Tourism Association and Co-Organizer of the event committee, highlighted that the KL Prosperity Walk is more than a Chinese New Year celebration. It celebrates local communities and their contribution to the social fabric of Kuala Lumpur. Major partners and sponsors include DBKL, MPP Bukit Bintang, Rukun Tetangga – KRT, BBKLCC, Pasar Seni, GMBB, Berjaya Times Square, Lalaport, Urban Museum (UR-MU), and TS Law Land, with Sime Darby Motors as the official partner for event cars and motorcycles.

The event has also received support from World Dragon and Lion Dance Extravaganza, Jalan Alor Petty Traders Association, KL Society, VIDA Bukit Ceylon, MOV Hotel, Lions Club of Kuala Lumpur – Host, and Asia Pacific University (APU).

In addition to the KL Prosperity Walk, NBBC and BBKLCC curate a yearly event calendar, offering diverse opportunities for public engagement. The event stands as a testament to the city’s unity, embracing tradition, and forging ahead towards a prosperous and dynamic future.

The Ritz-Carlton Experience: Turning a Luxury Staycation into an Unforgettable #TripMoment

Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton, Kuala Lumpur was an absolute delight! Opting for the Deluxe King Room turned out to be a brilliant decision, providing us with a spacious and luxurious haven for our stay. The bathroom, equipped with both a bathtub and a shower, added a touch of indulgence to the experience.

What truly set our stay apart were the thoughtful amenities – an iron, ironing board, safety box, and plush robes, not to mention the lifesaver coffee machine in the room for those lazy mornings.

Access to the hotel’s top-notch facilities came with the room, and we made the most of it. From the inviting swimming pool and well-equipped gym to the relaxation haven of the locker room with its jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room – we were thoroughly pampered.

There is a spa called Spa Village which complements the lavish experience of The Ritz-Carlton, adding an extra layer of indulgence to your stay. It serves as a retreat to this oasis of tranquility; from revitalizing body scrubs to soothing couples massages, Spa Village promises a holistic rejuvenation. I did not try the massage packages they offer but I did went check out their price list, which is catering the more premium guests.

In the morning, the breakfast at the Cobalt Room located on Level 1 was a highlight, featuring a delightful spread of local delights like nasi canai, roti canai, and dim sum, alongside international favorites like ham, sausages, baked beans, and eggs. Assorted fresh fruits, fresh fruit juice, coffee, tea, assorted yogurt, and muesli completed the morning feast.

Another plus point, the hotel’s central location in the heart of KL, seamlessly connected to shopping malls like Starhill, Pavilion KL, Fahrenheit 88, and the latest sensation TRX Exchange, made exploring the vibrant city a breeze. However, it’s worth noting that one downside is the view, as the building is surrounded by other high-rises, limiting the scenic landscape.

With parking at a flat rate of RM10, convenience was key, and we appreciated the hassle-free access to our vehicle.

Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton was not just a stay; it was a memorable experience. I wholeheartedly recommend it to family and friends – it’s a perfect blend of luxury, convenience, and good vibes. Our staycation became an unforgettable #TripMoment, and I’m genuinely grateful for the #TripcomFreeHotelStay that made it all possible. For an exceptional stay in KL, The Ritz-Carlton is the go-to spot!

An Unforgettable Stay at Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion with Breathtaking Views of KL Skyline

All four Kuala Lumpur’s iconic skyscrapers—Merdeka 118, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Kuala Lumpur Tower, and the Petronas Twin Towers in one shot

Upon entering the Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion, a sense of excitement filled the air, hinting at the extraordinary night that awaited me. Did you know Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion is the tallest Mercure hotel in South East Asia?! My most anticipated moment was to capture a single photograph encompassing all four Kuala Lumpur’s iconic skyscrapers—Merdeka 118, Tun Razak Exchange (TRX), Kuala Lumpur Tower, and the Petronas Twin Towers—which was the initial draw, but the experience that unfolded surpassed all expectations.

Now, let me share with you some reasons why I would recommend Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion to you.

Strategic Location
In the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s dynamic cityscape, Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion enjoys a prime location just 5 km from key destinations like KLCC, TRX, Bukit Bintang City Centre, Mid Valley Megamall, and Mines Wellness City. With 228 impressive rooms and suites starting from level 38, guests are treated to stunning views of Kuala Lumpur’s iconic skyline. Positioned as the city gateway and a quick 5-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur CBD, the hotel offers easy access to shopping, entertainment, and tourist attractions.

Elegant Interior Ambience
The moment I stepped into the lobby, the hotel’s elegant interior design caught my eye. The modern and tasteful decor, both in the lobby and throughout the building, exuded sophistication. The guest room, adorned with stylish details, provided a comfortable and refined setting for an exceptional stay.

Exceptional Cleanliness
I could feel that cleanliness and hygiene were prioritized to perfection at Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion. The unwavering commitment to maintaining impeccable cleanliness throughout the hotel instilled a sense of confidence and tranquility. The room, and most importantly, the bathroom including the bathtub were sparkling clean.

Sustainability Commitment
I am glad that the hotel’s dedication to sustainability shone through its eco-friendly initiatives. No single-use plastic, soap and shampoo dispensers in the bathroom, and glass water bottles – they’re doing their bit for Mother Earth, and I’m all for it.

The Mirror Restaurant Experience
A standout of the stay was the delightful dining experience at The Mirror Restaurant. The enticing local dishes served were a culinary masterpiece, showcasing the diverse flavours rooted in Malaysia’s rich culinary heritage. My personal favourite is The Mirror’s Fried Rice – kampung style fried rice with crispy ayam berempah, prawns, fried egg, salad and crackers. So delicious! The warm ambience of the restaurant enhanced the enjoyment of every meal. They serve buffet breakfast and ala carte lunch & dinner daily.

Fitness Facilities
A gym and an infinity pool were located on the rooftop. The gym had all the gear I needed for a brief workout, and the infinity pool? Mind-blowing! Picture this: a dip with a view that includes all those iconic skyscrapers. Yeah, it’s as awesome as it sounds.

Exploring the Neighborhood
Beyond the hotel’s confines, Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion’s strategic location offered convenience with a variety of nearby retail outlets. From tempting restaurants to well-stocked groceries, the surrounding area provided numerous opportunities for exploration and convenience.

My night at Mercure Kuala Lumpur Trion was nothing short of enchanting. The views, the style, the attention to detail, the clean scene, the eco-friendliness, the local grub, and the neighborhood vibes all came together for an unforgettable experience. Mercure’s commitment to ensuring a comfortable and delightful stay was evident throughout, making it an ideal choice for those seeking luxury and local charm in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Exploring the Wonders of Kedah’s Hidden Gem, Gua Sireh in Baling

Gua Sireh, located in the tranquil town of Kampung Padang Cik Mas, Mukim Pulai, is a popular destination for both locals and visitors from abroad. This cave, located only 20 meters from Baling town, combines natural beauty and historical value. The local citizens’ association initiated the exploration, which began in 2019 and demonstrates the community’s dedication to increasing tourism. The committee members of Kampung Padang Che Mas are currently working to conserve Gua Sireh.

About Gua Sireh
Gua Sireh measures 192 meters wide and 60 to 80 meters tall. The cave is decorated with multicolored neon lights, which illuminate the walls and provide a serene atmosphere. Its geological features, such as stalagmites and stalactites, reveal a rich history extending back thousands of years.

Starting Our Exploration
We started our exploration of Gua Sireh with a gentle warm-up, preparing ourselves for the enchanting journey that awaited. Climbing a staircase to the cave’s opening heightened our anticipation, and the distinct scent of bat guano in the air added an authentic touch to the natural ambiance.

Different Limestone Formations
My awe deepened the moment I saw a massive stalagmite in the shape of sirih junjung (a stack of betel nut leaf using in Malay’s wedding ceremony) at the entrance, a breathtaking introduction to the wonders concealed within the cave. Continuing our path, I marveled at the diverse limestone formations, like lion’s head, ear hole, broken boat and many more, each unveiling a new facet of nature’s artistry. The most interesting one is at the Gong Gallery, where you can really hit a huge limestone to produce gong-like noises.

Amazed with Nature
The white walls of the cave, lit up gently with colourful lights, made the cave look even more beautiful, making us realize how amazing natural forces have shaped the underground landscape. As we walked along safe paths with sturdy railings, we not only felt excited but also developed a deep respect for the delicate balance and captivating charm of Gua Sireh’s underground world.

Gua Sireh’s Historical Value
According to research carried out by the National University of Malaysia, Gua Sireh has been inhabited since 16,000-17,000 years ago, as demonstrated by fossilized shells and ancient formations within the cave. The finding elevates the natural wonder’s historical significance.

Becoming A Source of Income
Since the 1960s, Gua Sireh has been functioning as a place to collect bat guano for fertilizer and still is. Today, the cave has also become a popular tourist destination, providing an economic boost to the local community.

Facilities
The community has taken the initiative to enhance the cave, constructing facilities such as safe paths, electricity, and lighting. They’ve even arranged for cave guides to assure guests’ safety while they explore.
