Raya celebrations are best enjoyed with great company and, of course, an unforgettable feast! This year, I had the pleasure of buka puasa at Kwee Zeen in Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, where the Destinasi Rasa Serantau buffet dinner brings a spread of over 120 mouthwatering dishes that truly celebrate Malaysia’s diverse flavours.

A Grand Iftar Experience
From the moment I stepped in, the vibrant LIVE stalls and the aromatic scent of traditional dishes set the perfect mood. What stood out was the unique “Seven Flavours of Malaysia” concept, highlighting specialties from different states. My top picks?

Ketupat Sotong Gula Aren (Kelantan) – Tender squid stuffed with glutinous rice, bathed in a luscious palm sugar sauce.
Udang Galah Masak Diraja (Pahang) – Freshwater prawns in a rich, flavourful royal curry.
Nasi Biryani Sunquick Berlauk (Johor) – Fragrant biryani with a sweet citrus twist.
Kambing Golek Nusantara (Selangor) – Juicy, slow-roasted lamb infused with traditional spices.
Asam Pedas Ekor Lembu (Melaka) – A tangy, spicy oxtail dish that’s a must-try.
Mee Udang Harimau (Penang) – Prawns and noodles in a savoury, robust broth.
Kerabu Scallop & Oyster Goreng (Perak) – A refreshing seafood delight.

The Ultimate Sambal and Durian Experience
One highlight for me was the House of Sambals, featuring bold flavours like Sambal Hitam Nyiru Belimbing Buluh and Sambal Totok—each adding an extra kick to my meal. And for durian lovers, the Durian Warong served fresh durians daily, making it the perfect way to end the night.

The moment we heard that Kwee Zeen in Sofitel KL Damansara is having their Surf & Turf Extravaganza Buffet Dinner, my wife and I knew that we had to come back for it. True enough, we had a pleasurable gastronomic experience that evening.

The buffet is on every Thursday (6.30pm – 10pm) for the month of January for the price of RM138+ (adult) and RM69+ (children aged 7 to 11 years old).

The highlights of the buffet include beef tenderloin Wellington topped with prawns, London broil with chimichurri, shrimp scampi with broccoli, BBQ beef short ribs, baked navarin of chicken, gnocchi with prawns and asparagus ragout, lemon pepper cuttlefish with parsley butter, salted crust whole seabass, succulent herb spiced lamb, rotisserie chicken, Yorkshire pudding, barbecued chicken shish taouk, barbecued lamb shoulder, baked fish with harra sauce, seafood on ice such as slipper lobster, mussels, scallops, shrimps, yabbies, flower crab and many more.

Besides there main-theme highlights, the usual spread is still available too – beef and chicken sate, assorted serunding, lemang and ketupat, nasi goreng ikan masin, daging rendang “Minang”, assorted cheese, dim sum, cured meat, salad, fruits and rojak, gado-gado, lamb biryani, barbecued lamb shoulder, couscous, pasta and pizza, fruit juices, coffee and tea and many more.

We definitely enjoyed the hearty buffet spread this round, especially the fresh seafood on ice. Also, as always, my personal favourite is their dessert corner and they never disappoint to serve mouthwatering cakes and pastries there. I am deeply in love with their Caramel & Chocolate Tartlet, Red Velvet Crèmeux, Hazelnut Paris Breast Choux, Double Chocolate Brownies, Bread & Butter Chocolate Pudding and assorted macarons. Every time I return, I look forward to get these to kill my sweet tooth.
