Midweek Hot Pot Feast at Concorde Hotel KL – My Experience at the Jom Makan-Makan Hot Pot Buffet

If you’re a fan of hot pot and looking for a satisfying dinner spot in Kuala Lumpur, I recommend checking out the Jom Makan-Makan Hot Pot Buffet at Melting Pot Café, located inside Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur. I recently dined there and had a great experience that’s worth sharing with all food lovers.

This all-you-can-eat buffet takes place every Wednesday and Thursday, from 6.00pm to 10.00pm. It’s priced at RM98 nett per adult, and children aged 6 to 11 enjoy 50% off. For the variety and quality offered, I found it to be excellent value for money.

One of the highlights is getting to choose two soup bases for your hot pot. I personally went with the Signature Curry and Clear Chicken soups – both packed with flavour and the right level of spices & herbs. I highly recommend the curry broth which was rich and flavourful, while the chicken soup offered a clean, comforting taste – a great balance to suit different preferences. Other soup options available include Tom Yam, Kimchi, and Tomato.

The ingredient spread is impressive. I enjoyed premium cuts of Australian beef brisket and New Zealand lamb slices, along with chicken, seabass, tiger prawns, and asari clams. Everything was fresh and served in generous portions. There’s also a wide variety of vegetables like long white cabbage, spinach, romaine lettuce, kangkung, and sweet pea sprouts, along with tofu, mushrooms, frozen items, and several types of noodles to customise your pot.

What makes this buffet more special is that it goes beyond just hot pot. The teppanyaki station was a personal favourite – sizzling hot lamb shoulder and chicken grilled to order, with a choice of soy butter or teriyaki butter sauce. They also served tasty sides like prawn and vegetable tempura, fried mee mamak, Yong Chow fried rice, and chicken karaage with wasabi mayo.

Dessert lovers won’t be disappointed. The selection includes baked Japanese citrus cheesecake, red velvet cake, tiramisu, chocolate mousse, and assorted mini French pastries. There’s also a DIY ABC (Ais Kacang) station and freshly made waffles with ice cream and sweet toppings – a perfect way to end the meal.

If you’re planning to visit, I recommend booking early as seating is limited.

Korean-Inspired MB Gangjeong Chicken Makes a Comeback at Marrybrown Malaysia

I recently had the chance to indulge in the fiery goodness of Marrybrown’s MB Gangjeong Chicken again – and I have to say, it’s just as addictive as I remember. If you’re a fan of Korean flavours with a local twist, then this is one comeback you don’t want to miss!

Marrybrown, our beloved homegrown Halal fast food chain, has brought back its crowd-favourite MB Gangjeong Chicken across all outlets in Malaysia starting 23 May 2025. And yes, the signature sweet, tangy, and spicy sauce that made it such a hit is back – but with even more vibrant K-flair this time around.

I’ve always loved how Marrybrown knows how to strike the right balance – delivering bold, adventurous flavours while still suiting our Malaysian palate. And they’ve done it again with this limited-time menu. Whether you’re into burgers, rice bowls, or just good ol’ crispy chicken, there’s something in the Gangjeong lineup for everyone.

Here’s what you can expect:

  • Gangjeong Kimchi Rice Bowl Combo (from RM13.90): Perfect for kimchi lovers! The rice is flavourful with just the right amount of tang, topped with juicy Gangjeong chicken and served with Fanta® Strawberry.
  • Gangjeong Chicken Burger Combo (from RM17.90): This one’s my personal favourite – tender chicken thigh drenched in Gangjeong sauce, nestled in soft black buns, with crispy wedges and a fizzy drink.
  • Gangjeong Spicy Chicken Combo (from RM18.90): For those who like it saucy – four pieces of Gangjeong chicken with wedges and Fanta® Strawberry.
  • Gangjeong Spicy Chicken Box Meal (from RM24.50): Can’t decide? Get a bit of everything – chicken, burger, wedges, and drink, all in one box!

Don’t forget the sides and dessert:

  • 3-pc Korean Dumplings (RM4.50): Crispy and packed with a savoury mix of mushroom, kimchi, and chicken – perfect add-on to any meal.
  • Strawberry Custard Pie (RM4.99): A sweet ending, with flaky pastry and rich, creamy filling.

It’s great to see Marrybrown continuing to embrace the K-wave in such a fun and flavourful way. Whether you’re catching up with friends or looking for a satisfying solo meal, MB Gangjeong Chicken hits the spot.

So if you haven’t tried it yet – what are you waiting for? Grab your nearest Marrybrown fix and treat yourself to a Korean-inspired feast!

A Taste of Japan at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur: Japanese Buffet & Wine Dinner with Chef Koji Fukuda

I had the chance to attend a special chef’s Masterclass yesterday at PARKROYAL COLLECTION Kuala Lumpur, and it was truly an eye-opener into the refined world of Japanese cuisine. Chef Koji Fukuda, a culinary veteran with over 30 years of experience, walked us through his techniques, stories behind each dish, and his deep respect for ingredients. Watching him work up-close — calm, precise, and deeply passionate — was an experience that made me appreciate Japanese food even more. Now, the good news is, you don’t need to be in that masterclass to enjoy his creations. From 20 to 25 May 2025, the hotel is hosting A Taste of Japan, a week-long showcase of Chef Koji’s culinary mastery, open to all food lovers.

Japanese-Themed Buffet Dinners at Thyme
Held at Thyme, their elegant all-day dining spot, and Pacific Lounge at Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Kuala Lumpur, the event is done in collaboration with Meat & Livestock Australia and Aussie Beef & Lamb — so expect quality meats and flavours that blend Japanese techniques with premium Aussie produce.

From 20 to 22 May 2025, don’t miss the Weekday Buffet Dinners priced at MYR185 nett, where Chef Koji brings Japan to life through a beautifully curated spread. Then on 23 and 24 May 2025, the Fabulous Meat and Seafood Buffet (MYR238 nett) takes centre stage, featuring top-grade Australian beef and lamb alongside fresh seafood delights.

  • Sushi & Onigiri Station – torched beef sushi, mackerel rolls, and Australian lamb onigiri with savoury lamb miso.
  • Sashimi Station – fresh cuts of tuna, salmon, and white fish.
  • Teppanyaki Station – Osaka-style seafood okonomiyaki.
  • Tempura Station – golden-fried beef strips, prawns, and seasonal veggies.
  • Noodle Station – Kyoto-style kitsune udon.

Signature dishes include:

  • Hokkaido-style zangi karaage with shibazuke tartar sauce
  • Sumo-style chanko nabe steam pods
  • Australian lamb dumplings with shiso dressing
  • Genghis Khan-style yakisoba

One-Night-Only: 5-Course Wine Dinner with a View
On 25 May 2025, wrap up the week with an exclusive 5-course wine dinner at the Pacific Lounge (MYR368 nett). Held high above the city skyline, this elegant evening pairs Chef Koji’s beautifully plated courses with handpicked wines.

The menu includes:

If you love Japanese food or simply enjoy trying something new and exquisite, don’t miss this one-week-only culinary affair.

About Chef Koji Fukuda
Chef Koji brings his passion and enthusiasm for curating, introducing, and inspiring unique lamb recipes with Japanese ingredients to Japan, a country whose cuisine generally consists mainly of beef and seafood. He found this inspiration after joining the Lambassador culinary journey in Victoria, Australia,
where he embraced all the knowledge and experience about Aussie lamb. Chef Koji became more adventurous after beginning his career as a chef in Osaka. He then pursued opportunities in Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, where he created unique dishes that honoured Japanese cuisine.

In 2011, he stepped into an executive chef role, opened a restaurant, and went on to lead several dining establishments to success. In 2019, Chef Koji took on another executive chef position at a prominent hotel in Tokyo.
