Cuti-Cuti Kinabalu (Part 3 : The Food)

Eating around in KK was such a pleasure and as usual, food-hunting has been my past time in every trip I go. I believe many of us know about something called, fried bananas aka pisang goreng. BUT I found one called Sanggar Keju which no one can resist! I found it one of the shops opposite 1Borneo. It’s a corner lot, facing some colleges. But I couldn’t recall the name of the shop. My bad. Sanggar Keju is basically fried bananas, covered with syrup and shredded cheese. OMG! Must try! Such a sinful breakfast we had. But who cares?! Hahaha!

At the same shop, I had Nasi Kukus Ayam Goreng Berempah. It was so-so only lah.Image

At night we hunted our dinner around the Pasar Malam Sinsuran Kota Kinabalu, which is located near the Philippino Market and Waterfront area. We had so many food to prey on! Look at that huge cuttlefish! Is that a giant or what?!Image

Also look at the baby lobsters and mother prawns.Image

This plate costs RM10 only for 7 prawns…Image

And they sell them life too!Image

Grilled fish everywhere!Image

Camwhoring while waiting for our grilled sotong…Image

They have these too! Try guess what are they!Image

Time to makan! Murtabak sayur… Nothing to shout about. Image

And here, you have our grilled baby sotong…Image

This was the spot of the pasar malam in the morning… it’s located just by the sea side. It’s actually some fishermen’s wharf or something like that…Image

Running the Borneo International Marathon also exposed us to this cozy restaurant called Little Italy. We were given some vouchers for their set lunch menu. Knowing little of this Little Italy, we asked the waiter to recommend us some food. And they were good! Their topnotch services were exceptionally marvellous. The waiter was genuinely patient in explaining some dishes I asked about. Keep up the good work!Image

We had this tomato sauce pasta which was gastronomically a bomb! And also, its salmon pizza which was a bit on the salty side but the waiter actually warned us about it before we confirmed the order.Image

Did we have a feast or what? Their set menus include garlic bread and drinks/soup.Image

Brunch @ Levain

It has been a very long time we have heard about this restaurant called Levain. It’s located in the heart of the city. Finally, we managed to pay this place a visit for our brunch.

It’s our first visit. We were quite blur on what to order or how to order our food. We found a seat upstairs and asked Mein to sit and wait. However, I went downstairs and found another seat which is better for photography. Called Mein to come down and sit.

Later on when I went to grab our food, I found out that there a red coloured “Occupied” placard, which you can place it on the table you want to reserve. Now, I know what to do in our next visit.

Here are the pastries I picked. I highly recommend Danish Mixed Nuts (first from left). Coco Crunch (second from right) was good too! We loved Seafood pizza (third from right). However, Caramel French (far left) was not really our taste. To be frank, I find the price is slightly to the high side. Pampering ourselves with luxury food is ok for once a while.

Mein enjoying her big slice of Seafood Pizza. It can be reheated at a reheat counter at the restaurant.

Nom nom nom!

The ambience was definitely relaxing for a wonderful Sunday morning. The crowd was definitely big at around 10am and faded off around 11.30am.

There are more seats upstairs. So, don’t fret if ground floor is full.

The pastry area… be my guest…

Let’s’ tapao this yummy Danish Mixed Nuts for ma…

Cutey Coco Crunch… with 2 eyes… hehehe…

You can opt to park your vehicle in the restaurant with a pay of Rm2 only. However, spaces are limited. I parked further and walked there. Do take note that there are many Indian self-claimed parking attendants around, asking for money.

This restaurant opens at 7.30am – 9pm (daily).

A Short Break @ G Cup Tea

After window shopping for almost ONE full day in Kenanga Wholesale Centre, we finally stopped at a bubble tea kiosk called G Cup Tea. Yes, it’s specialty is the G Cup sized bubble tea. And it’s on Buy-1-Free-1 promotion. So, what more? Just grabbed one (and one) for ourselves.

Look at the G Cup sized and the regular sized tea… I opted for the bigger one…

Unbalanced… holding up my cuppa Honey Milk Bubble Tea with Pearls (G Cup) and a smaller cuppa Winter Melon Tea…

Durian & Seafood Feast in SS2

Wah!!! Durian season is back! And we’ve been waited so long for a real massive durian feast… Headed towards SS2 and look what we’ve done!

Sedapnyerr… RM10 per pax for all you can eat – D24 only! No durian kampungs ok! Wanted to try their "maosan" but quite expensive… D24 pun jadi lah

Refreshed ourselves with fresh coconut juice…

OMG! Whacked everything into the stomach! Yum yum!

After all the hard work, seemed like it paid off very well for us! Everyone was satisfied! "Burp!"

This was the stall we went to. The one next to it, OMG! Don’t even think of trying them. RM9… but durian kampung only. We paid RM10 for ALL D24! Mana lebih berbaloi? Kudos to Donald’s Durian stall.

After all the sweet-tasting durians, we all felt so hungry for some "salty" food… Yeah… SALTY. So headed to the food stalls nearby and had some seafood… Price is reasonable… RM15 for some finger licking good Garlic Butter Escargots (14 pieces per plate)

And this Nan Nan Sotong (Funny name. I think named after some kind of milk. LOL!) for just RM10. Memang sedap…! We had another plate, Kam Heong Balitong (RM8) but was quite disappointing. So not even thought of putting its picture into my Blog of Fame… Hehe…!
