A Friend’s Bad Experience

A friend of mine had a bad experience when he went to buy a smart phone from this shop, Ocean Thirteen Mobile Phone Enterprise (K13, 4th Floor) in The Mines Shopping Centre.

On 16 June 2011, he went to the shop and asked for a phone with GPS function as he needs it while traveling outstation. Prior to that, he had Samsung Galaxy Mini in his mind (which fits his requirements). Upon reaching the shop, the salesperson a.k.a Mr Sky, tried his best to persuade him to buy another model, Samsung Corby 2, which is RM100 cheaper. Mr Sky allegedly told my friend that the Corby 2 is :

  1. Of better performance than Galaxy Mini (using 800Mhz Processor);
  2. With Android OS;
  3. With GPS function (which is the main requirement my friend needed).

Believing what this salesperson said, my friend bought the Corby 2. He then explored the new Corby 2 and realized that all 3 claims were eventually false. Most importantly, it has NO GPS FUNCTION which my friend required.

He then quickly send back the phone to the shop next day and coincidentally, Mr Sky was on leave. My friend then talked to another salesperson and requested to change the phone to the one he wanted originally, Galaxy Mini. This salesperson told him that he can only do that by trading in the Corby 2 with second hand price. OMG! I can’t accept this. He then told my friend that he can accept back the Corby 2 by charging him extra RM160 to get the Galaxy Mini plus installing their GPS software and antivirus with an additional RM108. Of course my friend rejected the offer and went home. He then returned home without trading in and waited for Mr Sky’s return.

My friend went back that shop on 18 June 2011 and met Mr Sky. He said the same thing which is to trade in the phone with second hand price, except that he had to pay RM160 + RM160. However, my friend took the offer without wanting him to do anything to his new phone.

He had lodged a report to the Mines management via email. His report was acknowledged with a follow up call, stating that they are going to issue a warning to that shop but requested my friend not to send this report to The Star newspaper, fearing that this will tarnish their name.

I personally see this is a serious issue. This is totally cheating and “bright light robbing” consumers, and I hope anyone reading this would be warned about the existence of dishonest salespersons outside. Just be very alert and aware of your right as a consumer.

Disclaimer : I blogged this to warn all my friends and readers about the services they provide. It is up to them to judge whether to make any purchase from the shop or not after reading. This is not to tarnish any party’s name. Just sharing a friend’s experience.

Our 3-in-1 Party

It was a memorable day for everyone present (I hope). It was such wonderful party we had where Mein and I played hosts for this so-called “3-in-1 Party” – Housewarming-cum-Christmas-cum-Proposal Party.

Choco-macadamia Logcake

As we have planned, this was the 4th round of housewarming. It’s a warm and closed gathering where everyone has their own chance to speak and chit chat… I love this kind of feeling.

Dinner for everyone!

Well, we prepared chicken chop, spaghetti, salad and orange juice for everyone. Dessert was ‘tong-yuen’. Also, bought a choco-macadamia logcake from TK. Feel so lucky to have Mein to prepare her secret recipe – marinated chicken chop.  Delicious~!

Merry Christmas everybody~!

Gift exchange was something special too! Everyone chose their favourite numbers and stick it on their gifts. I have prepared some number cards on our small little Christmas tree. Coincidentally, each pair got the other pair’s gifts! And I got a little “choy san yeh”. So cute…! Mein got a small white clock.

Look what we've got for Christmas (gift exchange)

As for the proposal part, it was FW’s idea to do it in our home. So honoured. Me being me, prepared a slideshow for them, which even FW had no idea what’s in it. Haha! Hid the bunch of roses which he bought before they came. After the gift exchange, I distributed my presents to each of them. Riko got a CD (of the slideshow), which I played in front of them. After the show finished, FW got on one knee and proposed. This was when the flowers were brought out and he got out a ‘fake’ ruby ring from his pocket… It was so funny and you can see him being so nervous. He couldn’t say a word but just uttered “Can ah? Can ah?” Hahahaha… I laughed throughout (the whole process). After she agreed, everyone clapped and congratulated them. Well done, FW! Wish you and Riko have a great and wonderful life ahead.

"Will you marry me?"

Leaving Footprints

We did our housewarming party quite different from others. We have it separately with different groups of friends. Frankly speaking, we don’t like calling it housewarming. We call it “Welcoming Party”!. So far, we had 4 already. One with family members on the first day of moving in. Second, we had steamboat with Ip and Jeff. CF couldn’t make it last minute. Third was with Mein’s colleagues while the latest was with my current colleagues. The next one would be with my primatz on Christmas day. We are really looking forward for it.

Mein’s wonderful colleagues
My colleagues-cum-crazy family members

We really hope you guys have enjoyed yourselves and thank you all sooo much for making it a warm and wonderful party! Thanks guys for all the presents too!

Celebrating Mother’s Day & popo’s birthday

We had a Mother’s Day-cum-popo’s birthday celebration yesterday in Legend Hotel. It’s her 70th birthday. So much memories flashed back in my mind whenever I think of popo. She’s a super lady who’s taken care of her children, grandchildren and even others’ children very well. I still remember the time when I was small, I always liked to go to her house and play. There were so many sweet memories. She’s also a great chef! I love her cookings so much. NO one else can beat her. (really, NO ONE!)

3 generations… 三代同堂

Popo and her birthday cake… It’s shaped like a peach (bought from Bread Story)… 寿桃蛋糕

A basket of red eggs… chicken and duck eggs to be exact… 一粒鸡,一粒鸭,活到一百!(Cantonese saying : one chicken egg, one duck egg, live until one hundred of age)
