Grannies Kiosk Melawati Serves Nasi Dagang & Other Authentic Terengganu Cuisine in Kuala Lumpur

People who know me will know that I have a soft spot for traditional Malay food. So when I attended the Grannies Makan Makan Fiesta, I was genuinely excited to discover Grannies Kiosk Melawati. Tucked inside Restoran Sajian Mak Lang, just a short distance from Melawati Mall, this humble spot is easy to access, and yes, parking is surprisingly convenient around the area. You can literally see this building from MRR2.

Grannies started about 8 years ago, back in 2018, and in February 2026, its very first kiosk was opened right here in Taman Melawati. Today, it continues to serve authentic Terengganu cuisine, preserving recipes that have been passed down through generations. If you’re a fan of traditional flavours, this is the kind of place that feels both nostalgic and comforting.

They operate daily for breakfast from 7am to 12pm, which honestly makes it the perfect morning makan spot. Their menu is packed with classics like nasi dagang, nasi lemak sambal ikan, laksa (both kuah putih and kuah merah), pulut lepa (pulut panggang), pulut tapai, and assorted kuihs, just to name a few. Everything here leans heavily into authentic East Coast flavours—rich, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying.

From what I tried, I highly recommend the Nasi Dagang Ikan and Nasi Pulut Rendang Daging. The nasi dagang hits that perfect balance with its fragrant rice and flavourful fish curry, while the pulut rendang is hearty and indulgent. Don’t skip their kuih-muih too—simple, traditional, and done right.

Fun fact: their nasi dagang is also available at all Kueh Cafe outlets across Klang Valley, a brand owned by Ezwan Zain aka Mr E (Erra Fazira’s husband). So yes, you know it’s legit.

Grannies also accept orders via WhatsApp or call (013-9075199), and there’s no minimum order—which is quite rare. Whether it’s catering, a small birthday party, or even a casual gathering, they can customise games and activities to suit your event.

It’s no surprise that local celebrities like Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza, Neelofa, and Datuk Aznil Nawawi (Pak Nil) also loved their food.

Akara Sky Hanuman Evening Experience at Bangkok’s Most Immersive Rooftop Destination

During my latest trip to Bangkok, I finally made my way to Akara Sky Hanuman, and it turned out to be one of the most memorable nights I’ve had in the city. If you’re looking for a rooftop experience that blends immersive art, Thai culture, creative dining, and stunning skyline views, this place should be on your Bangkok travel list. Sitting 276 metres above the city, Akara Sky Hanuman offers a full evening journey across multiple themed floors, each with its own atmosphere and story.

I visited during the evening session, which starts from around 4 pm onward. The Evening Pass is priced at about 1,000 baht per person, and it gives you access to every main zone, including the immersive art rooms, Siam Societies lounge, Hanuman Sky Bar & Restaurant, and the Sky Night Market. For the amount of content packed into one visit, the value is honestly quite solid.

My night began at the immersive art installations. These rooms are some of the most Instagrammable spots in Bangkok right now. The Bangkok Reflection space uses mirrors and light to create an artistic interpretation of the city’s past and present, while the Virtual Sky Lantern room recreates the feeling of floating lanterns drifting into the night sky. Both spots are perfect for photography, but also genuinely enjoyable to walk through because of the calming, dreamlike ambiance.

Next, I stepped into Siam Societies, a beautifully decorated Rama V–inspired lounge filled with old-Siam details. With the Evening Pass, guests receive a complimentary welcome drink or dessert, so I took my time here before heading up to the rooftop. The space feels refined but still cozy, making it a nice transition between the art floors and the nightlife section.

The highlight of my experience was the Hanuman Sky Bar & Restaurant. The giant Hanuman head sculpture anchors the space, illuminated with projection mapping that shifts throughout the night. Cultural dance performances happen every hour, bringing elements of Thai tradition to life against a backdrop of glowing city lights. As the evening gets later, the DJ takes over and the energy shifts into a lively rooftop atmosphere. The menu features Thai-inspired dishes and creative cocktails, making it a great spot for both dinner and drinks.

I ended the night with a quick walk through the Sky Night Market, a charming rooftop market offering snacks, small bites, souvenirs, and mini games — a fun, lighthearted way to wrap up the experience.

And honestly, after experiencing the nighttime version, I’m already wishing to return during the day because there’s still so much more to explore.

If you’re planning a Bangkok itinerary and want a unique blend of culture, nightlife, food, and immersive art in one place, Akara Sky Hanuman is absolutely worth visiting. It’s easily one of the best evening activities in Bangkok right now, and a must-see for travelers who enjoy rooftop views with a creative twist.

Where to Eat in Phuket: Tunk-ka Cafe at Khao Rang Hill for Sunset Views & Authentic Thai Food

If you’re looking for a dining spot in Phuket that combines great food, fresh air, and a breathtaking view, I recommend checking out Tunk-ka Cafe. Located near the top of Khao Rang Hill (also known as Rang Hill or Khao Rang Health Park), this cosy restaurant offers a relaxed, natural setting surrounded by trees and greenery. It’s the kind of place where you can truly unwind while enjoying authentic Thai cuisine with family or friends.

I had the pleasure of dining here during my recent trip and honestly, it was one of the unique dining experiences in my trip to Phuket. The weather was breezy up on the hill, and the scenery—especially during sunset—was absolutely stunning.

The food? Let’s just say, I’m still thinking about it.

We ordered several dishes to share, and each one impressed. My personal favourites were the sweet and sour curry with shrimps and Phuket pineapple, which had just the right balance of tanginess and heat, and the crab meat stir-fried with curry powder—so rich, flavourful, and generous with the crab meat! Another standout was the crab meat and herbs in coconut milk curry—creamy, aromatic, and perfect with steamed rice. We also had the stir-fried pak liang with egg, a southern Thai vegetable dish that was simple yet delicious.

From what I gathered, seafood and crab dishes are a popular choice here, and it’s easy to see why—they’re fresh, well-prepared, and packed with flavour. Get the full menu here.

What I really liked about Tunk-ka Cafe is how it feels so peaceful, almost like a hidden retreat above the city. Whether you’re planning a small group gathering, a casual family dinner, or even a quiet meal with your partner, this place hits the sweet spot for ambience and taste.

So if you’re in Phuket and looking for a place with great food, amazing views, and a relaxing vibe, give Tunk-ka Cafe a try. Trust me—you’ll want to come back.

Celebrate Raya 2025 with The Chicken Rice Shop’s Hikayat Ayam Zamrud & Refreshing Lagenda Kurma Drink

As the sacred month of Ramadan begins and Aidilfitri approaches, Malaysians across the nation come together to reflect, give thanks, and share moments of joy with loved ones. In the spirit of togetherness, The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) proudly introduces its latest seasonal masterpiece — Hikayat Ayam Zamrud, a limited-time menu item inspired by the rich flavours of tradition and culture. This special dish is a perfect companion for your buka puasa (breaking fast) and Raya celebrations, combining taste, warmth, and nostalgia in every bite.

I recently tried the Hikayat Ayam Zamrud, and it’s more than just a meal — it’s a rich culinary tale told through every bite. This hearty dish features perfectly golden-fried, juicy chicken paired with fragrant rice and a warm, comforting bowl of soup. What truly elevates the dish is the bold and aromatic sambal hijau — a local Malaysian favourite. Made from a fragrant blend of herbs, fresh green chilies, and a zesty hint of lime, the sambal delivers a balanced punch of spice and freshness that lingers on your palate. As someone who savours bold, Malaysian-style flavours, I thoroughly enjoyed the harmony of textures and spices in this dish. The crispy exterior of the chicken contrasts beautifully with its tender, juicy interior, and the aroma of the rice alone sets the tone for a fulfilling meal. To top it all off, the special-edition Lagenda Kurma drink — sweet and refreshing — is the perfect finish to the meal, offering a cool escape after a spicy, savoury experience.

In the true spirit of Ramadan, TCRS is also giving back to the community. As part of its ongoing commitment to social responsibility, The Chicken Rice Shop is extending heartfelt support by delivering hearty, nourishing Hikayat Ayam Zamrud meals to local orphanages in the Klang Valley through special food donation initiatives. The three orphanages are Rumah Anak-Anak Yatim Shifa, Rumah Penyayang Nur Iman, and Rumah Titian Kaseh. This generous effort reminds us all of the values that make Ramadan meaningful — compassion, gratitude, and giving.

Celebrate Chinese New Year with The Chicken Rice Shop’s Limited-Time Ayam Oren!

While everyone is celebrating Chinese New Year, my wife and I were excited to try The Chicken Rice Shop’s (TCRS) exclusive seasonal dish – the ‘Ayam Oren.’ This limited-time offering, available until 23 February 2025, puts a festive spin on the beloved orange chicken, blending traditional Chinese New Year flavours with a unique Malaysian twist.

We opted for the ONG You & Me Set, perfect for two people, and it did not disappoint. From the first bite, we were impressed by the well-balanced flavours. The chicken is coated in a luscious orange sauce that delivers a delightful mix of sweetness and tanginess, enhanced by a gentle warmth from the ginger. The toasted sesame seeds on top add a pleasant crunch, making every bite more satisfying.

What truly stood out was the fragrant rice and the perfectly cooked Spicy Savoury Lady’s Finger. The rice had just the right texture – fluffy and aromatic, complementing the savoury sweetness of the chicken. The lady’s finger was tender yet had a slight crunch, soaking up the flavourful sauce beautifully. The combination made for a wholesome and satisfying meal.

TCRS has designed their Ayam Oren sets to cater to different dining needs:

  • Ong-ly Me Set – Perfect for solo diners who want to indulge in the festive flavors.
  • ONG You & Me Set – Ideal for couples or friends sharing a delicious Lunar New Year meal.
  • Ong Like Us Set – A generous portion suited for groups of up to four, making it an excellent choice for family gatherings.

To complete the festive experience, TCRS also offers the Ong-ren Bliss beverage, a sweet & refreshing drink that pairs perfectly with the sweet and savoury notes of the Ayam Oren.
