Unwind and Relax @ Chiang Mai (Day 4) – Final

The second last day in Chiang Mai and we had a full free day for ourselves! Art in Paradise was really a must-go spot when you are in Chiang Mai. Similar to the 3D art museum in Korea or anywhere else, but this one is simple awesome! Enjoy the pictures below. We’ve have a great time trying to capture the best snap from various angles and shot. Really really worth the time. We had good laugh too!

This trip to Chiang Mai was really an enjoyable one and I shall cherish every moment we’ve spent together as a family, especially now that the earthquake has affected a few places we’ve touched during the trip. This is how fragile life is and every moment is gold. Hope to have more family trips in the coming years…

Unwind and Relax @ Chiang Mai (Day 3)

Chiangrai, here we come!!! It’s time to head to Chiangrai for the much anticipated White Temple. Anyone going to Chiangrai from Chiangmai on a day trip must allocate 1 full day for the trip as all the attractions in Chiangrai are located rather far from each other.

chiangmai_dixon (43)

The first destination was the Thaweesin Hotspring. At first, I thought that it would look like a big pond of hot water. But it’s actually streams of hot water flowing along man-made drains. So all we need to do was to put our feet into the hot water for about 5-10 minutes (if you could stand the heat). It’s really hot, boiling hot I would say. 10 seconds is too long for me!

chiangmai_dixon (42)

Preparing to dip in our sexy legs…

chiangmai_dixon (44)

You can actually buy natural boiled eggs here

chiangmai_dixon (45)

This is in fact the highest hotspring in Thailand! Hot water fountain keeps spraying out from the land…

chiangmai_dixon (46)

Look at this majestic White Temple also know as Wat Rong Khun. I just love the pure white and its structure. Look how fine and detailed each structure was made…

chiangmai_dixon (48)

(Note : Due to earthquake, the temple got severely damaged and is now closed for visitation. Visitors can still admire the building from far. But no one can enter the temple itself until further notice. Such a sad news).

chiangmai_dixon (47)

According to our guide, the temple was built to remind the people about hell and heaven. The replicas which show struggling and suffering expressions represent the torturous ambience in hell. Alcoholic drinks will bring you to hell (according to the temple).

The representation of heaven is the inside of the temple. However, no photos allowed. All I can say is the drawing on its wall is really different from other temples. They include cartoon and movie characters like Doraemon, Minions, the Matrix, Star Wars and etc. hoping to attract children to come to the temple more often.

(Note : The wall painting was damaged due to the latest earthquake and needs to be repaired which may take up to 2-3 years time)

chiangmai_dixon (54)

chiangmai_dixon (55)

This is a wishing well. Visitors make their wishes and throw coins into the well.

chiangmai_dixon (56)

This is a toilet/washroom. YES! A golden toilet…

chiangmai_dixon (57)

Heads of demons and villains from various movies are hung around. Interesting.

chiangmai_dixon (58)

Beside the golden toilet, is the souvenir shop and in front of the shop, visitors can take a postcard to write down their names and details, and even keep it as a souvenir for free.

chiangmai_dixon (59)

chiangmai_dixon (60)

chiangmai_dixon (61)

The laughing man on the card above is the artiste and founder of this temple. He is the mastermind behind the building structure.

Have you heard of the Golden Triangle of Thailand – Myanmar – Laos? We took a boat ride along the Mekong River. It’s really interesting to know that 3 different countries being so closed to each other, but yet so far apart. China is also somewhat near the Golden Triangle, but further away.

chiangmai_dixon (65)

chiangmai_dixon (67)

Upon reaching Donsao, Laos, we disembarked and went to the market place. We had to pay a small amount of tax at a little booth before entering.

chiangmai_dixon (68)

Different kinds of wine… they’ve got lizard, tortoise, ginseng, tiger’s penis and snake… You wanna try? 😛

chiangmai_dixon (69)

Poor turtle…

chiangmai_dixon (70)

You can get an LV, Guess, Chanel and even Gucci and Coach here… Just name it!

chiangmai_dixon (71)

chiangmai_dixon (74)

chiangmai_dixon (75)

We also went to the most northern part of Thailand. It was separated by a small river and across is Myanmar.

chiangmai_dixon (76)

chiangmai_dixon (77)

chiangmai_dixon (78)

Beautiful hair pins found in the market at this area. Mein got herself two of these.

chiangmai_dixon (79)

We also paid a visit to the Thailand hilltribe village. The wooden idols are believed to protect the village from evil and bad energy. And yes, that’s a man’s…

chiangmai_dixon (80)

She is an Akha tribe.

chiangmai_dixon (81)

chiangmai_dixon (84)

This is the Meo tribe. We bought two of the bamboo cups. Very creative and natural! Planning to drink our wine with these.

chiangmai_dixon (82)

This old lady is a Lahu. She is 90 plus years old, and chewing betel leaves (daun sirih) and tobacco…

chiangmai_dixon (83)

She is a Mien (Yao) tribe. Their ancestors are from Yunnan.

chiangmai_dixon (85)

A very simple village. We didn’t visit the long-neck Karen tribe because we think that it would be better if we do not disturb them.

chiangmai_dixon (86)

Another picture with the ‘men and women’ of the village.

I must say that it was a long day. After all the visiting to the different attractions, we had to get back to Chiang Mai and the journey took us 3 hours. It was indeed taxing and  exhausting… But it was really eye-opening!

Unwind and Relax @ Chiang Mai (Day 2)

It’s gonna be an adventurous day coz we are visiting the Maesa Elephant Camp and an orchid and butterfly farm. I am really excited to go to the elephant camp because I know I can have a chance to get near to the majestic creature.

chiangmai_dixon (18)

SMILE! @ the entrance

chiangmai_dixon (19)

Taking photo with two baby elephants. They are taught to ‘entertain’ the guests and ‘ask’ for tips after photo sessions. But they are really adorable.

chiangmai_dixon (20)

We bought a bundle of sugarcane and a bunch of bananas to feed the elephants. Beware that the animals will grab the whole lot of food and stuff them into the mouth. So, untie the snacks further aside before feeding them one by one. Just to have more enjoyment time! 🙂

chiangmai_dixon (21)

This baby just snatch the sugarcane from my hand…

chiangmai_dixon (22)

We didn’t take the elephant ride. But you can if you want to. Just pay at the counter or to your tour guide.

chiangmai_dixon (23)

This is more fun! It’s bathing time for Dumbo and friends… I’ve really enjoyed watching them being cleaned and washed… So fun!

chiangmai_dixon (24)

chiangmai_dixon (25)

This one submerged into the water and cleansed itself… Hahahaha… cooling!

chiangmai_dixon (26)

Elephant show – these giants performed in front of the crowd. They kicked football, threw darts, played basketball and painted beautiful paintings.

chiangmai_dixon (27)

I believe they have really given 101% of effort in their performance…

chiangmai_dixon (28)

An elephant waving its trunk at me…

chiangmai_dixon (29)

After the show, the elephants and their caretakers collected tips and funds from the audience…

chiangmai_dixon (30)

We saw these beautiful orchid pendants in the orchid and butterfly farm. These are made from real orchids and butterfly wings…

chiangmai_dixon (31)

Mein Mein in the orchid farm

chiangmai_dixon (32)

chiangmai_dixon (33)

chiangmai_dixon (34)

The Penang butterfly farm has more butterflies than this one…

After returning from the visitation to the animal farms, we walked to Warorot Market, not far from our hotel. That’s my favourite place. The hub of all kinds of street food and local delicacies. I’ve always liked visiting local markets in the countries I visit.

chiangmai_dixon (35)

Mango sticky rice, a local favourite and must-try!

chiangmai_dixon (36)

Packets of dried fruits and nuts… Borong!!! BTW, do grab more dried longans from Chiangmai as they are really delicious and cheap compared to KL price.

chiangmai_dixon (37)

More street food and frutis…

chiangmai_dixon (38)

They even have sushi and popiah

chiangmai_dixon (39)

Yummy! The big sausage is my favourite (chicken meat), and beef and tendon balls… Please check with the seller before buying, if you want to know what meat they are made of.

chiangmai_dixon (40)

These are pork sausages… funny looking though…

chiangmai_dixon (41)

Tia Cafe – we stop by this cafe when we walked back to the hotel. I liked the emptiness of it at that time. Feels like the whole store was for us! Hahaha!

Unwind and Relax @ Chiang Mai (Day 1)

This year, we’ve chosen Chiang Mai as our destination. As usual, the air tickets were booked a year ago when Air Asia had their low fare promo. I was very much anticipating the infamous White Temple and night bazaar. Surprisingly, there were even more to expect!

We went to Meo Village where the Meo hilltribe people stay and trade. They open stores selling food, grocery, souvenirs, fruits and etc.

chiangmai_dixon (1)

The main entrance of the village

chiangmai_dixon (2)

Fresh strawberries sold in cups. You can opt to dip the strawberries in their self-produced sweet and sour powder. Not bad!

chiangmai_dixon (3)

Fresh peach / apricot

chiangmai_dixon (4)

A type of berry (I dunno what it’s called), texture like tomato, but sweeter. I like them!

chiangmai_dixon (5)

Hand woven shoes for babies sold as souvenirs

chiangmai_dixon (6)

Cute lah the shoes. So tiny…

chiangmai_dixon (7)

The signboard at the entrance

Looking at the steps from the picture below might scare you. Hahaha! These are actually steps leading up to the Doi Suthep Temple. Fret not! We took a cable car up. But then we walked down the steps after going round the temple area up the hill. Pheww… Less tiring at least.

chiangmai_dixon (8)

Walk, walk, walk… burn those calories… Hahahaha! Not forgetting to exercise though travelling.

chiangmai_dixon (9)

‘Cleansing’ the sacred dome replica, wishing for good luck, health and prosperity

chiangmai_dixon (10)

Remember to cover your legs when going into the temple. Either, with a scarf or wear long pants. If you do not have a scarf, you can borrow (or rent, not sure) from the counter at the entrance. Mein Mein brought hers! 🙂

chiangmai_dixon (11)

Little hilltribe girls dancing to their traditional music in their costume.

chiangmai_dixon (12)

This girl is so cute, particularly this one.

chiangmai_dixon (13)

It was time for dinner and we had Chiang Mai’s traditional food at one of the cultural restaurant, with performance and dance.

chiangmai_dixon (14)

These are the food served. I like the sweet fried ‘beehoon’, fried chicken and sambal. Yummy!!! They also serve sticky rice. BTW, those round thing at the lowest are fried pork skin. I dun eat pork. So, dunno how they taste like.

chiangmai_dixon (15)

Busan Trip (Day 4) – Final

It was basically our last day to travel around Busan. The next day was just to travel from the hotel to airport for departure. We started our journey to Taejongdae Park. We walked from the hotel to the bus station near Lotte departmental store in Nampodong to take bus no. 30 to Taejongdae Terminus.

busan_dixon (126)

Yeah!!! We have arrived

Upon arriving the park entrance, we went for a toilet break and hiked up to its Danubi Tramcar ticket counter. There is no entrance fee to enter the park if you choose to walk. Being a tourist, taking the tramcar to travel around the park is definitely a wiser option. Just hop on and hop off the tramcar when you reach its stops. The fee for this tramcar ride was 1,500 won per pax. Among the attractive spots we went to were the Natural Observation Path, Taejongsa Temple, the Lighthouse, Observation deck and the Gumyeongsa Temple.

After a long trip at the Taejongdae Park, we went for a lunch and took a bus back to Nampodong. Our next station was Gwangalli Beach. We took the subway to Gwangan station and came out from Exit 3 or 5. Keep walking towards the beach direction. Road signs are available everywhere.

busan_dixon (132)

Our lunch – side dishes were more than the main dish. Only 8,000 won for this meal. Hahaha!

The Gwangan Bridge welcomed us at its horizon. It was such a scenic view! And there were so many coffee shops along the whole stretch of road. Us being coffee addicts jumped in to one of the cafe to enjoy a cuppa. We chose Angel in Us. Not bad! We loved the environment and ambience.
